Abby and Barney

martin | Equine | Friday, June 19th, 2009

When friend and client Abby asked if I’d photograph her horse Barney my first question was “will he tolerate flash?” because I knew exactly the image I wanted to create.  We also needed a cloudy day which meant postponing the first date we had planned.  First time I’ve postponed a shoot because it was too sunny :)

Barney was super-tolerant and good natured and didn’t mind the portable studio light that I used to create the first two pictures in this set.  The first image is the shot I evisaged when I asked Abby the initial question.  Lola worked her photoshop magic to finish the images off to perfection (and get rid of a few raindrops).  The buttercups in the fields near Northampton were the icing on the cake.

No flash here, just making the most of super natural light:

Another splash of flash from a small flash gun hand held by Abby brings this image to life:

New portraits site

martin | News | Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I’m pleased to say that our new portrait web site is now live here www.martinplant.com/portraits and we have a new home page which has links to portraits, weddings and blog.  I’m still seeing a few residual glitches after  our hosting provider’s power outage earlier this week so we’re looking to change to a more reliable provider asap.

I’d welcome any feedback on the new site.

Shirin and Mark’s Pre-Wedding Photo Shoot

martin | Pre-wedding | Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Here are some of my favourite images from Shirin and Mark’s Pre-Wedding (engagement) photo shoot that we did in Northampton a few days ago.  It was a bright sunny day, which isn’t always great for photos, but it meant we could play with some cool fashion-style techniques to create great looking pictures in full sun. The set starts with a few ‘engagement classics’ with a couple of the funkier ones to end.  Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did the shoot.  Looking forward to the wedding in a few weeks time :)
